School Uniform

Through consultation with parents, we have adopted a smart school uniform.  We believe that wearing a school uniform is important.  It gives our children a feeling of pride and a sense of belonging to an effective learning environment.  It has advantages in that it provides all the children with the same standard of dress and helps to avoid the rivalry associated with "designer labels".  It also enables our teachers to readily identify Birdham children when they are on school outings. We would strongly recommend that a label with the child's name is attached to any clothing and a link to a name tag  provider is below.

Required uniform (every day)

• Grey trousers, shorts, skirt or pinafore dress
• White shirt or polo shirt
• Royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan with the Birdham logo
• Plain white or grey socks or tights
• Plain black practical shoes without a heel.  No trainers or knee length boots

Optional and seasonal items

The following items are optional:

•  Blue and white checked summer dress
• Winter coat or lightweight rain coat (weather dependent).  The only requirement is that these are weather appropriate as we will get the children outside as often as we can. 
• Sun hat

Families do not need to purchase different every day uniform for different times of the year.  Pupils may continue to wear grey trousers, shorts, skirts or pinafore dresses throughout the year. 

Sports kit

• Royal blue T-shirt with the school name
• Black or navy shorts
• Plain black or navy jogging bottoms (for wear during colder weather if required)

No additional uniform is required for particular sports/ clubs or inter-school competitions.  Where specialist or team clothing is needed, the school will provide or lend it wherever possible. 

Branded and generic items

We require no more than two compulsory branded items which are available from our supplier:

• Royal blue school jumper or cardigan with the Birdham logo
• PE shirt

All other uniform items are generic and can be purchased from any suitable retailer. 

 To assist children and parents with 'not losing' clothing, we  have teamed up with STIKINS to offer parents the opportunity to purchase quality labels for your children’s school uniform, whilst earning the school commission at the same time! This money can then be used to continue to help purchase some of the fantastic resources that benefit our children’s learning.

 As we all know, at some point, your child will come home without some article of clothing!  We understand time is precious, which is why we think these labels are such a great idea; they simply stick onto the wash-care label of clothing. They can even be used in shoes! Naming of clothing is a school requirement and we are hoping that with this opportunity we can start to eliminate some frustrations that surround these issues.

How it works:

They are really easy to use – no sewing or ironing – just stick them to the wash-care label.

They are washing machine, tumble-dryer, dishwasher and even microwave-proof!

Use them on coats, clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles, shoes, bags, PE kits, glasses cases, trainers, musical instruments, phones etc.

Additionally, we have a small number of good quality second-hand items which can  be purchased from the school office upon request.
